A10M Extruders no longer working

I've only recently purchased a Geeetech A10M and have only managed to get one or two successful prints out of it before it has failed completly.

On the last print the E0 extruder stopped working, i noticed that the E1 motor was burning hot....too hot to touch (E0 was cold to the touch) and there was a burning smell coming from the control box. I discovered that the E0 stepper driver had burnt out, so i replaced both extruder drivers with some A988's from another printer. While i was trying to set up the vref E1 is always giving a negative value, E1 motor is heating up but doesnt move, E0 motor doesn't do anything...no noise nothing.

Update: i've noticed that the x axis moves ever so slightly when tring to extrude using pronterface, no matter which extruder used nothing happens. i've updated firmware from this forum...most versions makes the buzzer sound all the time so am using a Marlin 1.1.8 which this doenst happen on.

Anyone seen this problem before?
