24V heat bed for my I3 Alu

Post by onki » Wed Apr 17, 2019 6:18 pm

Hi,

I am currently using the original 12V heat bed with my i3 Alu.
The problem is that I cannot reach temperatures higher than 105°C which is critical when I want to print ABS.

Is there a 24V version available to replace the original one. Since I am using the GT2560 board 24V supply is not a problem.
Does the 220 x 220mm Superplate from the A-series printers fit on the i3 Alu?

Best regards
Onki

I think you should refer to these:
1.Upgrade the PSU to 24V type
2.Add the extender mosfet for the hotbed
3.You need to replace the heating bar(hotend) to the 24V version.
4.Replace the cooling fan to the 24V verison

Hi onki.

I make my prints at 90°C for a heated bed. ;) This is enough to improve the adhesive strength I use Dimafix.
The heated bed in my printer has an aluminium plate.

Hi,

I am currently using white ABS Filament from Verbatim.
This does not stick to the clean glass plate at all. Levelling is OK as PLA is working nicely without changing something on the printer.

I bought an insulation pad to be placed under the heat bed in order to handle 100 to 110°C as this is required for ABS (suggesttion from other experienced 3D printer people).

Best regards

Hi.

Let me know when you run the tests. I am curious about the progress of the test. ;)

Hi again,

I managed to insulate the heat bed with a foam pad and now 110°C are no problem at all.
But still ABS does not properly stick on my glass bed. PETG works good like PLA.
Is there a slightly satined glass bed availabe. I don't need the glossy surface on my parts so this kind of glass might be better with regard to sticking of the filament. And removing the final part from the glass plate should be no problem.

Best regards
