Anet A8 MXTEMP BED even with bed termistor unplugged

Hey there,
I'm totally new to this board and I hope someone can help me.

I've a ANET A8 printer for a few weeks now and everything was working well until today. The display now shows "MAXTEMP BED" and the bed temperature is displayed as 243 degree celcius (the bed has in fact room temperature).
To see if the bed thermistor is malfunctioning if switch the plugs for bed and extruder temp. But still the display shows MAXTEMP BED and the value for the extruder is not correctly showing the temperature for the bed, so the thermistor is working properly and I'm back to square one. Is the board defective? I've already tried flashing it with the newest sky net firmware (2.3.1) but the error remains.

Would be great to get some help here.
