This printer...

1. M8 Rod too long, i must remove extruder fans.
2. X Axis no contact to the endstop, i must remove the rings from the rods.
3. X Axis movement inverted, i must set it in the LCD menu.
4. LCD show me 301° for hotend and printbed. i must disconnect BOTH and now it goes to 71°

The seller say i must update the firmware. But nothing... same 301° failure.

1. add a space between the fan and the extruder and use a long bolt to lock it.
2.print a plastic stick to or tie a blot or something on the carriage, check this link:
http://www.geeetech.com/forum/viewtopic ... 22&t=17238
3. this is normal for a DIY printer.
4. check the this link to see if the board or thermistor is dead:
http://www.geeetech.com/forum/viewtopic ... 23&t=17030
and the pins of the thermistor connector, is there any solder bridge or a bad contact?

Hello,

1. i use my own M8 Rods no problem.
4. No shortet outs on the bottom side. all contacts looks good. I have tested with our own sensors and and and. one or two sensors connected it shows 358 on both. I MUST disconnect BOTH sensors and it goes down to 71 degree. Is no sensor connected and i power on the printer. The printer starts with 240 degreee and go down to 71 degree. I think the board is defect.

according to what you said, the board might be faulty, you can contact the sales to talk about it.

Hello,
I was considering to buy this printer, but could not find an answer to this question.
Is the firmware for this model open sourced and available somewhere?

For a DIY printer I think it is absolutely necessary that the firmware is open, so that I can tweak it myself if I need to.
But also having it open sourced will give me more confidence in the continued support for this printer, so that if I have a problem, the creator is not the only person I can turn to for help.

The product description of the printer states that "you can unleash your creativity to refit or modify it as you like. This kit is just the beginning; you can get more out of it." so I assume that the firmware must be available somewhere for me to refit and modify as I like.
I certainly believe I will be able to get more out this printer if others can add their own modifications to the firmware.

the firmware for the M201 is not open sourced, you can just download the .hex file here.

It is really a pity...
I fully agree with duststorm : it is not possible to 'unleash our creativity' with this proprietary firmware which has got much less functionalities than open source ones

For me it's clear: I will not buy a diy printer with closed source software.

I even saw comments of other people that bought it that got tired of the firmware, and replaced the controller with an arduino platform so they could load opensource firmware.

access to the "control->version" then you'll find the version, or just reinstall the latest version.
