Filament out detector on i3 Pro C

I am running the firmware that was on this board for 1.1.8 on this printer and all works well.
However, I want to fit a filament out detector but I cannot get it to work - I believe I have made the changes required and it is plugged into "X_MAX" socket.
What worries me is that the M119 command reports the X/Y/Z_MIN pin states but not the X_MAX or filament out.
Has anyone installed one of these on this machine ?? and if so what rev of the firmware was needed.
Perhaps they might share thire config file ?
I am a bit reluctant to move to marlin 2.0.x at this stage.
