GT2560 Board from i3 Pro W

Post by BR365 » Mon Mar 25, 2019 7:17 pm

Hello,
I have mounted a 2560 Board from a i3 Pro W to my I3 Aluminium and this works rather fine:

Here, on the right side, there are only twi distance holders, the board is mounted only with two screws. But it seems to be very stable and I used distance holders on both side of the board, this should be safe enough:

It seems to be the better solution. One reason was, thet the SD Card reader didn't work and there are more settings possible through the display then with this small board coming with the i3 Aluminium.

Nice job!
Absolutely the GT2560 board is better than the default one of the I3 A.
You can add the bltouch/3dtouch to your printer.
If you have the interest, you can also add the filament detect sensor.

Hey guys, I've been looking for some info/docs on installing a filament detector(s). I posted here because William mentioned it and it sounds easy.
I have yet to see a simple set of instructions, even from the (ebay) vendor. I say simple because after you do it a couple of times most things are simple. I'm sure there's a post out there but I haven't found it yet. So here is where I'm at.
I have an MK8 PRO Dual ext. I don't know what ver of firmware. I know many have added filament switches so this is nothing new. But that's about the bulk of the info I'm finding "I did it." Lots of mentions but only bits and pieces of instruction.
That said: I have some empty plugs on the board. I believe they are going to be X, Y and Z max limit. I'm only using the min limit and homing from those. Then soft limits for over travel. I also have a 3rd fan plug that I'm not using, but I don't know if that port is configured on the board for an input.
I don't see any other empty slots that might be designated for a filament switch. I'm willing to bet I can use a couple of the empty plugs to do what I want, but I don't know how or where to enable/configure them. I don't want to just to plug in and hope it works. In my mind a filament switch should generate a pause as opposed to a travel limit switch which is more like an Estop.
If there is a "switches for noobs" post out there could you point me to it?
Thanks
